How To Decorate A Contemporary Style Bedroom
Apr 26th
Posted by admin in Bedroom and Mattress
For some, the sleek clean lines associated with the contemporary style are perfect for the bedroom but many homeowners are at a loss as to how to achieve this style of decor.
No matter how bad your decorating skills are, you can decorate your bedroom with a contemporary flair by making a few alterations such as painting and coordinating your bedding and pillows to enhance your room with a modern design.
In order to have a sleek contemporary look, you don’t necessarily need coordinating bed, bureaus, and tables but the bedroom should have lots of furniture with simple, clean lines. Try to find furnishing with chrome or metal details. A dark stain or light stain wood will work as will black lacquer style furniture.
A contemporary theme is light on accessories, but the few pieces you do have are key to the success of the design. Be sure to include a few simple pieces that are simple in line and form. A simple square vase with 1 flower or a metal sculpture, perhaps. Additional items such as vintage art.
My Best Bathroom Decorating Tips
Apr 24th
During recent years, bathrooms have increased in size and this has meant new decoration techniques have been developed. This room can now be more attractive and one that you will be proud of. It is probably because we all take longer in this room than we used too, so employing a few bathroom decorating ideas to liven it up makes it all that more enjoyable. Gone are the days when a bath or shower was a rushed affair; we all want to enjoy the experience so why not do this in a pleasant surrounding.
If you add the opportunity to show off your bathroom decorating ideas a little to your neighbors then it suddenly seems more worthwhile. The kitchen used to be another place that wasn’t a high priority but all that has changed as the average family spends more time there so why not the bathroom as well.
You may want to carry over bathroom decorating ideas and styles you have used in the rest of your home. For example, if a nice low table looks good in the hallway, it will look positively elegant in the bathroom. If you have a table with a shelf underneath, why not place a few selected magazines of books on there to really set the tone.
On the other hand, if you find you have ideas that work well in the bathroom, why not see if they work in other rooms in your home. Tiles are a prime example of this type of reverse decoration as they can be used almost anywhere and are not restricted to just a few rooms where they are traditionally found.
If a bathroom tile has a particular pattern there are many places where it could be used to augment the feel of the home including the kitchen. Whilst it is the tiling aspect that tends to dominate kitchens and bathrooms, there are many other bathroom decorating ideas that can be used.
Simple things that often get overlooked but can be visually appealing are soap dispensers and soap dishes. There are even articles in home decoration books and magazine illustrating how easy it is too make your own soap rays.
One uncommon design for a soap tray was to make it by hand out of clay, which you must admit is quite novel. I have always found that even if you do nothing else, a relaxing picture, perhaps of woodland, lake or seashore can make a great deal of difference to a bathroom. With the materials and information available today, there is no excuse not to turn your bathroom into something very special.
Kitchen Decorating Colors
Apr 22nd
Decorating your kitchen can be a fun and rewarding task. One of the first things you need to decide, however, is what color to paint or wallpaper the room in. Since the color has a huge effect on the look of your design, you should consider this carefully. Here’s some tips on what colors you might want to use for your chosen kitchen design style.
French Country
French country style is both rustic and elegant at the same time. Since the furnishing and accessories highlight this style, it is often best to go with plain walls. Try using a light colored paint in pale blue or yellow with crown moldings on the walls, or if you want something different go with stenciling. For an aged look try faux painting the walls to look like aged plaster or use plaster with a warm golden shade.
Tropical
There are a couple of variations on the tropical style. One is the traditional “Florida” tropical that uses corals or pinks and turquoise. These colors can be rather bright on the wall so you might want to stick with white walls and use these colors as accents or include them in borders and stencils. The other variation is the more modern “palm tree” tropical which uses more earth tones in khaki tans and greens. Painting the walls a sage green or tan and using palm tree borders is great – you can even get a nice palm tree wallpaper with matching border if you want. You could also consider having a tropical mural painted right on the wall, or you can buy wallpaper murals – there’s even a cute one of a faux window overlooking the beach!
Tuscan
Tuscan walls should have an age old look. Try a golden mustard yellow or earth tones as a paint color. Consider a faux plaster with an aged patina on the walls, or use faux painted walls that look like cracked plaster. A mural of a window looking out on the Tuscan countryside could really add some interest to this type of kitchen.
Victorian
When think of a Victorian kitchen, I think of a simple black and white motif. White walls with black and white checked tile. You may want something a bit more colorful and in that case you can go with a floral print on the walls or plain paint in a white or off white and accent the walls by hanging antique plates and other assorted items.
Tips For Decorating Small Bedrooms

Making your small bedroom look big can seem like a challenge, but you’d be amazed at the decorating tricks that can be employed to do just that. Below are some tips you can use for decorating small bedrooms. Pick out a design approach which you will love, but also a design which can help to make your room appear larger. You may also want to make sure to design in a lot of storage space so you can quickly put things away as clutter will make even a bigger bedroom look small.
Think about keeping your furniture and accessories in the small size range. One method to make good use of space is to use underbed storage, in lieu of bureas which will make the room look bigger but still allow storage of clothing. All small scaled items might be monotonous and you will want to break that up by using a few bigger pieces, so even though you may choose to go for the underbed storage, include a big cheval mirror, which not only gives a bit of drama and interest, but also gives off the feeling that the room is larger than it really is.
Another trick for decorating small bedrooms is to give some thought to where the accessories and furniture are going to be placed in the room. Even though a lot of people reject the principles of Feng Shui, the principle behind it could still be applied when setting up the furniture and accessories in your attic room. Furniture ought to be positioned away from the doors to allow easier access to the rooms as well as make it look more spacious. If you can, direct the eye from the open doorway to a bigger piece like a and this can help divert the eye and give the illusion of a larger room.
